How did dionysus get his name?

The name "Dionysus" is derived from the pre-Greek term *Diwonusos, which may be related to the words *diwos ("day" or "sky") and *nusa ("island" or "land"). The name can thus be interpreted as "the one from the sky" or "the one from the island." Alternatively, it may be related to the Phrygian word *dinu ("roar" or "din").
