Who was the first person to invent sticky notes?

The inventor of the first commercially successful self-stick notes, Arthur Fry, died of pneumonia on July 11, aged 97. He was a Minnesota-based 3M engineer who came up with the idea for Post-it notes in the early 1970s. Fry was based at 3M's headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota, and was looking for a way to mark pages in his hymnal to improve his singing at church.
