Robert Schuman

Born on June 29, 1886 in Luxembourg, Robert Schuman is one of the founding fathers of European construction. After schooling in Luxembourg and Metz, Schuman left for Berlin to study law. He later opened a law firm in Metz. In 1914, when the First World War broke out, he was assigned to military service in the German army. At the end of the war, he entered politics and was elected deputy for Moselle in 1919. During the Second World War, he was arrested by the Gestapo in 1940. He escaped and returned to Moselle for the end of the war. When peace was restored, he became deputy for Moselle again in 1945 and began to work for the French state:first as Minister of Finance, then President of the Council of Ministers and finally Minister of Foreign Affairs. He thus works for the construction of Europe.
