Born in 1946 in Connecticut, George W. Bush is the son of George Bush (41 e President of the United States). He studied at Yale University and became a businessman in the oil industry. Very pious and a member of the Republican Party, he was twice elected Governor of Texas between 1994 and 2000. He defeated Democrat Al Gore in the presidential election of 2000 (even though he had fewer votes than the latter) and then became 43 th President of the United States.
After the attacks of September 11, 2001, George Bush instituted the Patriot Act, which restricted freedoms in the name of American security and launched operations in Afghanistan. His war against terrorism continues with the invasion of Iraq by Saddam Hussein in 2003:he evokes a war against the “axis of evil”. Having acted without the approval of the UN, he was then decried on the international scene.
W Bush was re-elected in 2004 against John Kerry. After a fall in popularity linked to the mismanagement of Hurricane Katrina, he reconnected with American public opinion thanks to better management of Hurricane Rita. He gave way to Democratic President Barack Obama in 2008.
