Ferdinand of Aragon, known as Ferdinand II the Catholic, was born in Castile. In 1461, his father designated him as his heir:he became King of Sicily when he came of age, in 1468.
He married Isabella of Castile in 1469:Castile and Aragon became two united kingdoms. It reinforces the royalty by establishing controls of the military orders, or by operating a submission of the nobility.
He also created a new Inquisition and conquered the kingdom of Granada in 1492:Pope Alexander VI gave him the title of "Catholic King".
Charles V, his grandson, inherited his kingdom of Aragon at the time of his death.
