French politician, who became lame as a child, he was destined for an ecclesiastical career and became bishop of Autun. He is a deputy to the States-General and head of the constitutional clergy. He left the Church and left for the United States. He was later Minister of Foreign Relations thanks to Barras, and kept his post by participating in the coup d'etat of 18 Brumaire. Not approving of Napoleon's conquests, he played a double game with the political entourage. He thus became Minister of Foreign Affairs under Louis XVIII. He defended France at the Congress of Vienna, dividing the Allies. He became ambassador to London under Louis-Philippe.
Last brother of Napoleon, he became king of Westphalia in 1807. He took part in the Belgian campaign and was wounded at Waterloo where he obtained command of the army after Napoleons departure. Jérôme became Marshal of France in 1850 then President of the Senate in 1852.
