Sawai Jai Singh was born on 3 November 1688. He spent his entire life in the battlefields of North and Central India and did politics by living under fanatical minded emperors from Aurangzeb to Bahadur Shah, Farrukhsiyar and Muhammad Shah. It was not an easy task to do politics among the Mughals, Afghans, Marathas and Jats and to stay in the field of politics for 45 years continuously. Still he persevered with patience. He drank even sips of insult with ease.
He was a learned king, he had made great contributions in the fields of art, culture, science and spirituality, but despite this, the last days of a brave and diplomatic king like Sawai Jai Singh could not pass happily. As his age progressed, his fascination for alcohol increased. He started drinking heavily. Along with this, he became obsessed with sex and started taking stimulant drugs. Due to this he got a blood disorder. He died on 21 September 1743 due to illness. At that time he was a little less than 55 years old. He was cremated at Gator near Jaipur.

Sawai Jai Singh was the great Rajput king of North India in the eighteenth century AD. He was the chief general and the best officer of the Mughal Empire. With his ability, he got the leadership of all the Rajput kings and with his diplomatic skills, he also made an important place in the Mughal court. He expanded his kingdom and organized it and established political unity in Khodad and Shekhawati regions. Realizing the need of a new capital for his expanded kingdom, he got a beautiful city like 'Jaipur' built. He made his new capital a great center of Indian literature and Hindu culture. He had a special interest in astronomy and encouraged scientific study and discovery by establishing observatories at Mathura, Banaras, Ujjain and Jaipur. His character was a strange mixture of all the good and bad tendencies of that era and the merits and demerits of contemporary royal families. He was truly the representative king of his time.
