Vallabhbhai was still studying in the village school that in AD 1893, at the age of 18, he got married to the 13-year-old Jhaberba. Being young, Jhaberba remained in her own life and Vallabhbhai continued to study. As Vallabhbhai went on self-study, he was becoming aware of this
That if they want to gain knowledge in life then it is necessary to study the English language. They were astonished to know that England is a very small country of English speaking Englishmen, but they have spread their kingdom in the world so much that the sun never sets in it.
That's why they wanted to go to England and see what is so special about that country? English was not taught in Karamsad's school, while there was a good English language school in Petlad village, 11 km from Karamsad. The Sardar decided that now he would not study in Karamsad but in Petlad.
In those days, Vallabhai's dispute with a teacher of his school had increased so much that there was hesitation on the matter. Because of this, there was a disturbance in studies. To overcome this situation also it was necessary that Patel should go to another school.
Therefore Vallabhbhai convinced his six friends to take admission in the school of Petlad. Together, the seven friends rented a room in Petlad and started studying.
On Sundays, he would go to his house to bring ration from there and take turns to cook food, clean utensils and do other household chores. Thus in AD 1897, Vallabhbhai passed his matriculation at the age of 22.
