What kind of material is terra cotta?

Terra cotta is a type of fired clay. It is made from a mixture of clay, water, and sometimes other materials such as sand or grog. The mixture is shaped and then fired in a kiln at a high temperature, which causes the clay to harden and become durable. Terra cotta is typically reddish-brown in color, but it can also be produced in other colors, such as buff, orange, or black.
