Who invented the Zipper and when was it invented?

The zipper was invented by Whitcomb L. Judson in 1893. It was originally called a "clasp locker". Judson's invention had a hook-and-eye mechanism that was difficult to use, and it did not become popular. In 1913, Gideon Sundback, a Swedish-born engineer who worked for Judson's company, improved the design and created a zipper that could be opened and closed with one hand. This new design was called the "separable zipper", and it quickly became popular.
