When scientist discovered radioactivity?

In 1896, the French scientist Henri Becqurel accidentally discovered radioactivity while experimenting with uranium salts. He placed a uranium-coated photographic plate in a drawer, and when he later developed the plate, he found that it had been blackened. He initially thought that this was due to the uranium salt's fluorescence, but further experiments showed that it was caused by an invisible radiation that he called "uranium rays".
