General Condition

Wat Phra Ut is an abandoned archaeological site on the southeastern side of Wiang Kum Kam. About 5 kilometers from the Ping River to the east, it was originally a mound. It has now been excavated and restored. Located along the road around Chiang Mai city. (Highway 121) The surrounding area is a road around Chiang Mai city, rice fields and villagers' residential area.

Wat Phra Ut is an abandoned ancient site that has been disturbed and destroyed a lot. No information appears in any document. Overall condition, only the base remains. making it impossible to determine the exact pattern of the ancient site.

The Fine Arts Department has excavated the ancient site of Wat Phra Ut. Including excavation of ancient monuments in the same area in 1999 (Department of Fine Arts 2005 :90) found information of ancient monuments and antiquities as follows:

Wat Phra Ut archaeological site consists of a viharn and a chedi. There are also 4 other ancient sites in the vicinity. which left only the base part.

Architectural features

1. Vihara is a temple hall in a rectangular plan. facing east Lifting the front and back gauges, 2 parts on each side, with stairs leading up to the front of the sanctuary The interior consists of 2 pairs of pillar bases. The roof structure is made of wood. thatched with clay tiles The form of the viharn is a style that was built during the 21st - 22nd Buddhist century.

2. The chedi is located behind the viharn. Only the bottom of the chopping board was left in the square plan. Supports the front of the board 3 layers up to the floor overturned. There is a brick paving around the pagoda.

Artifacts found

Found important antiques, stucco pieces of Buddha images. and pottery from the Lanna furnace source Age can be determined around the 21st - 22nd Buddhist century.

Determination of age

Due to the ancient site of Wat Phra Ut It is a very disturbed and destroyed archaeological site. As a result, the exact pattern of the ancient site could not be identified. Therefore, to determine the age must rely on the evidence of artifacts found from excavations and excavations, both in 1995 and 1999.

From the information of antiquities is a piece of stucco Buddha image. and pottery made from Lanna kilns, which can be determined in age in the 21st - 22nd Buddhist century, and from the style of architecture similar to many ancient sites in Wiang Kum Kam Most of which were built during the 21st - 22nd Buddhist centuries, so the archaeological site of Wat Phra Ud should be built during the 21st - 22nd Buddhist centuries.
