Hasdrubal the Handsome

Hasdrubal the Beautiful, also known as Hasdrubal the Elder, born around 270 BC. J. - C. in Carthage and assassinated in 221 av. J.-C., is a Carthaginian general.

He is the son of Hannibal de Gisco and the son-in-law of Hamilcar Barca.

He leads the Carthaginian forces in Spain after the death of Hamilcar. His government is marked by two events:in -226 a treaty with Rome divides the Iberian Peninsula into two zones of influence:the Ebro constitutes the border between the zones and the two powers refrain from acting in any way on opposing lands. In 221 BC. AD, he founded Cartagena (Carthago Nova or New Carthage).

He was assassinated by a Gallic slave whose master he had killed (221 BC) and Hannibal Barca, the son of Hamilcar, succeeded him.
