The Legion marches

The history of the chant “La Legion marches” is linked to the Condor Legion and the SS, German and French divisions. The Condor Legion was an air force formed from Nazi Germany's Luftwaffe personnel, which fought in Spain during the Civil War between January 1937 and April 1939. It was the first to sing the song with different lyrics. Then the German SS Division during the war with Russia adopted this song. At the same time, the SS Charlemagne divisions in France and the Viking divisions in Norway in turn adopted this song by creating the lyrics in the respective languages.
After the Second World War many Germans committed themselves to the Foreign Legion in particular in the parachute battalions among others at the 2BEP. Quite naturally adopt the song of the SS divisions and change the lyrics in relation to the geopolitical situation.

The Legion marches

The Legion marches to the front,
Singing we follow,
Heirs of its traditions,
We are with it.

(Chorus)
We are the men of the assault troops,
Soldiers of the old Legion,
Tomorrow waving our flags ,
As victors we will parade,
We have not only weapons,
But the devil walks with us,
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, for our Legion elders,
Fighting there, we follow suit.

For this destiny as a knight,
Honor, Loyalty,
We are proud to belong
To the 2nd REP.
