One of the most important personalities in the development of the history of the Spanish empire was, without a doubt, Isabel I of Castile , better known as Isabella the Catholic. The three decades of her reign consolidated the hegemony of the Spanish, thanks to her strong character and her political decisions, which allowed her to expand the domains of the Hispanic crown. Together with her husband, who was also her first cousin, Fernando de Aragón, they were known as the Catholic Monarchs, a title that was granted to them by Pope Alexander VI .
His acts as regency for her were decisive in achieving the reconquest of Spain from the power of the Moors and in the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. The transcendental role played by the Catholic Monarchs is well known – and particularly Queen Isabel – in the financing of the trips of the famous Genoese navigator, who at the beginning did not have the support and trust of all before his expeditionary efforts, which ended with the discovery of our continent, a territory that he incorporated into his empire and that was the sustenance of its great expansion and its immense wealth.
On a day like today, in 1504 she died Isabel la Católica and she was succeeded by her daughter Juana, known in universal history as Juana la Loca. Spill Magisterial invites you to learn more about the life and career of this woman who left her mark on humanity:
