I am not referring to interpretations of the Bible, but to editing or printing errors that changed the meaning of the text, giving it a funny or blasphemous twist, depending on how you look at it. Many of these erroneous edits They have become a collector's item.
The blasphemous comma :In several editions of the King James Bible it says:«And there were also two other malefactors [crucified with Jesus]" should have been "And there were also two others, malefactors » so as not to include Jesus in that distinguished group.
The Bible of sinners or the wicked :refers to the Bible published in 1631 by Robert Barker and Lucas Martin in London. The name given to this Bible is due to the error, by omission, of the word “not”:in the Ten Commandments ( Exodus 20:14 ), it appears “You shall commit adultery » instead of «You shall not commit adultery «. The Bible publishers were fined £300 and deprived of their printing licence. Today, there are 11 copies of this edition.
The Bible of the unjust :this is the name given to a Cambridge edition in 1653. In the first letter to the Corinthians the question is asked:«Do you not know that the unjust shall inherit the kingdom of God? instead of "Know ye not that the wicked shall not inherit the kingdom of God? «.
The Fool's Bible :1763 edition. In a Psalm he recounts:« The fool says there is a God in his heart “, instead of “… there is no God «. The printers were fined three thousand pounds and all copies were destroyed.
The Camel Bible :this 1823 edition includes « Rebekah rose and her camels ( camels ) «, Instead of« Rebekah rose and her maidens ( damcels ) «.
The Printer's Bible :it is a published edition of 1702. In Psalm 119, instead of complaining about «the Princes (princes ) have persecuted me without cause “, it says, “The printers (printers ) have persecuted me without cause «.
The Vinegar Bible :version published at Oxford in 1717, by J. Baskett. Converts the «parable of the vine or vineyard (vineyard ) » in the «parable of the vinegar (vinegar ) «.
The Owl Bible :1944 edition, in the first book of Peter it reads:«...women were subject to their owl husbands (owl ) » instead of «…women were subject to their own (own ) husbands «.
The Bible of those responsible :1562 edition published in Geneva in the Gospel Matthew:«Blessed are the place-makers (place-makers ) «, instead of «Blessed are the peacemakers (peacemakers ) «.
