Nero:the Fixation of Chant

The unforgettable Peter Ustinov plays Nero in "Quo vadis"? Nero loved singing and played the zither

Nero he had a lot of fixations ( see https://www.pilloledistoria.it/8959/storia-antica/nerone-la-passione-lo-sport) , but for art, especially the Greek one, he nurtured a true and deep passion from an early age, although he was actually denied for any discipline in which he ventured.

Music, poetry and theater certainly interested him much more than politics.

He himself loved to challenge himself in performance of various kinds, even if, to his great regret of him, he never obtained the hoped-for success and which he insisted on believing he deserved.

In the song especially , Nero he practiced until exhaustion.

Despite the efforts made, however, the bizarre Roman emperor was not at all inclined to this ancient and noble art, but in order to avoid its frequent and dangerous outbursts of anger, the masters ended up indulging him by carefully avoiding to hurt his self-love, particularly sensitive about his (alleged) artistic qualities.

However, it seems that Nero went better with the zither, a musical instrument among the most popular in Rome of the time, which he could play fairly well.
