Historical story

The flooded Kopaida plain from above

Kopaida is a plain of Boeotia which was created after the drying up of the homonymous lake during the period 1880-1930.

It is located in the north of the prefecture and is surrounded by the mountains Heliconas to the west, Ptoos to the east, Chlomos to the north and by smaller heights to the south that separate Kopaida from the plain of Thebes and Vagia.

After the last heavy rains of the last few days (it has been raining non-stop since last Saturday) a very large part of the plain has turned into a lake again. Thousands of acres of crops have been drowned under water and the damage is enormous.

Some say that "water has a memory and remembers" wanting to say that where nature had decided to have a river, stream or lake, nature and water will usually regain their rightful place.
