Historical story

Why are NYC taxis all yellow?

The idea of the color yellow for New York taxis came about in 1915.

One of the most famous postcards in the world are the Yellow New York Taxis . The construction of the identity of New York taxis began 100 years ago, in 1907 , when the first fuel-powered taxi circled the city.

The consolidation of New York's hopscotch took place with its continuous appearances in world-renowned films. However, the idea to paint cars this color was from John Hertz , from Chicago , after reading, in 1915, in a bulletin of the University of Chicago that the color yellow, added with a little red, could be seen from very far away.

With that he decided to paint his more than 400 vehicles with the egg yellow tone , which made his taxi company the most successful in the business. It wasn't until the 1970s that New York adopted this yellow as the default color for cars that have a meter.
