Mark Anthony

Antoine is the first lieutenant of Julius Caesar when he is emperor of Rome. He helps him to establish his authority, and obtains the function of quaestor in Gaul in -53.
At the death of Caesar, in -44, a conflict of power opposes Marc Antoine, Octave Auguste and Lépide. Antoine is designated public enemy by the Senate, and loses the battle of Modena against Octave in April 43 BC. J.-C. An agreement between the three men is finally found in -43:the second triumvirate is created. Together, they eliminate Caesar's assassins:Brutus, Cassius and their armies are defeated during the battle of Philippi in -42.
The triumvirate shares the Roman Empire, and Marc Antoine receives and reigns over the East . Passionate about orientalism and in love with Cleopatra VII, he turned away from Roman management and politics to devote himself to his personal kingdom, which consisted of Judea, Phenicia and Cyprus. He gives the eastern territories of Rome to the Egypt of Cleopatra.
Octave decides to attack Antony, who loses the naval battle of Actium (-31). Having taken refuge in Alexandria, Antoine committed suicide there, allowing Octave to enter the Egyptian capital.
