Jean Moulin

Born in Béziers in 1899, Jean Moulin studies law and leaves for the front in 1918, he will not participate in the fight, because the armistice is proclaimed. He joined the prefectural body in 1922. Successively chief of staff, sub-prefect of Albertville, ministerial chief of staff, he was appointed prefect of Aveyron in 1937. Became prefect of Eure-et-Loir, he was finally dismissed of the Vichy regime in 1940 and began writing his resistance journal:Premier combat .

He joined the resistance organization of Free France in London. Received by General de Gaulle, he draws up an inventory of the resistance in France. Sent to Lyon to unify the Resistance movements, he was arrested and tortured by the GESTAPO (led by Klaus Barbie) and died in 1943.

First president of the National Resistance Council, Jean Moulin is considered one of the heroes of the resistance. In a famous speech from 1964, André Malraux had the "presumed ashes" of Jean Moulin transferred to the Panthéon des Grands Hommes.
