Pepin II of Herstal (640 - 714)

Grandson of Pépin de Landen, and nephew of Grimoald, Pépin de Herstal, whose fortune is already considerable marries Pléctrude. Mayor of Dagobert II's palace in Austrasia, he was however an agent with other Frankish sovereigns. Linked to them, he probably ordered the assassination of Dagobert II. Pépin fought against Ebroïn and Neustria, he thus won a great victory over the Neustrians at Tertry in 687 and became mayor of the whole kingdom under King Thierry III. On his death, he designated one of his sons:Charles Martel, as his successor.
