Baldwin of Boulogne(? - 1118)

Brother of Godfrey of Bouillon, he left with him at the head of the 1st crusade in 1095. He founded the county of Edessa of which he was put in possession. In 1100 he left this county and succeeded Godfrey on the throne of Jerusalem. In 1104, helped by a Genoese fleet, he seized Ptolémaïde (St Jean D'Acre). In 1109 he took Berythe (Beirut). In 1115, he built the castle of Montreal. After winning several victories over the Saracens, he was stricken with dysentery in Egypt at the siege of Pharamia and died on his way back to Palestine, to Laris, in the desert.
