3. Became MLA for four consecutive terms

After winning the Danta Ramgarh Legislative Assembly seat in 1952, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was elected MLA from Shrimadhopur seat in the year 1957. In 1962 and 1967, he was elected MLA from Kishanpol seat of Jaipur. Thus he became MLA for four consecutive terms at the very beginning of his political career.

lost from Gandhinagar seat

In 1972 assembly general elections Bhairon Singh Shekhawat contested from Gandhinagar seat. Janardan Singh Gehlot of Congress stood in front of him. During the election campaign, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat also went to Janardan Singh's parents' house to seek votes and asked them to vote for himself. Once during the campaign, both the candidates came face to face. On this Bhairon Singh Shekhawat told Janardan Singh in front of everyone that you are winning. So did happen. Bhairon Singh lost this election.

lost from Barmer seat

After losing the election from Gandhinagar seat, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat contested the Lok Sabha elections from Barmer parliamentary constituency, but in this election also he had to face defeat from Amrit Nahata of Congress.

in Rajya Sabha

The defeat in two consecutive assembly elections could have been a big blow to anyone, but in the year 1974, Madhya Pradesh Jana Sangh nominated Bhairon Singh Shekhawat to the Rajya Sabha and he was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1974 to 1977.

Five years in jail

In 1975, when there was an emergency in the country, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was imprisoned under MISA from June 1975 to March 1977.

First Time Chief

After the end of the Emergency, the Janata Party was formed in the country in the year 1977. Jana Sangh also merged with this new party. Bhairon Singh also joined the Janata Party. In the same year, mid-term elections were held in Rajasthan in which the Janata Party got 150 out of 200 seats. At that time many members wanted to make the former Maharawal Laxman Singh of Dungarpur, who was rich in high level orator and influential personality, but the central leadership of Janata Party wanted to make Bhairon Singh Shekhawat the Chief Minister. In the legislature party meeting, there was a contest between Janata Party master Adityaendra and Bhairon Singh Shekhawat for the post of Chief Minister, in which Shekhawat won and formed the first non-Congress government in the state. Shekhawat was then a member of Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. On 22 June 1997, at the age of fifty-four, he took oath as the Chief Minister, due to which he had to give up the membership of the Rajya Sabha.

First Cabinet

On June 27, 1977, in the Shekhawat government, Master Adityaendra, Prof. Kedar Nath, Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi, Sampat Ram and Trilokchand Jain were made cabinet ministers, Kailash Meghwal, Vigyan Modi, Mehboob Ali and Vidya Pathak were made ministers of state.

Shekhawat resigned from the Rajya Sabha and contested the by-election from Chhabra assembly constituency of Kota district on 18 October 1977 and got the membership of the assembly.

Expansion of the first government

The Shekhawat government was expanded on 7 February 1978. Suryanarayan Choudhary, Bhanwarlal Sharma, Jaynarayan Poonia, Digvijay Singh and Purushottam Minister were included as cabinet ministers. Kailash Meghwal was also given the rank of cabinet minister. Lal Chand Dudi and Nandlal Meena were made ministers of state. In July 1978, the Morarji government at the center fell and Charan Singh Sarkar was born. Due to this, Lalchand Dudi and Vigyan Modi resigned from Bhairon Singh government on 8 July 1978 in Rajasthan. The third expansion of the Shekhawat cabinet was done on 5 November 1978. Manakchand Surana, Kalyan Singh Kalvi, Dr. Harisingh and Birdamal Singhvi were inducted as cabinet ministers and Harisingh Yadav and Bhairavlal Kala Badal as ministers of state. Master Adityaendra on 18 May 1979, Prof. Kedar Nath and Dr. Harisingh resigned from the Shekhawat government on 2nd August. On 20 December 1979, Shivcharan Singh Gurjar was included in the government as a cabinet minister.
