Ancient history

What were the two major empires of ancient India?

1. The Maurya Empire (321-185 BCE) was the first major empire to unify most of the Indian subcontinent under a single rule. It was founded by Chandragupta Maurya, who was originally a military general. The Mauryan Empire reached its peak during the reign of Ashoka, who adopted Buddhism after witnessing the horrors of war. Ashoka pursued a policy of non-violence and promoted the spread of Buddhism throughout India.

2. The Gupta Empire (320-550 CE) was another major empire that ruled over most of the Indian subcontinent. It was founded by Sri Gupta, who was a local chieftain. The Gupta Empire is considered to be a golden age of Indian history, marked by great achievements in art, literature, science, and mathematics. One of the most famous rulers of the Gupta Empire was Chandragupta II, who defeated the invading Huns.
