Ancient history

What is the name of a monk in middle ages?

A monk in the middle ages is often called a friar. Friars were members of mendicant orders, religious communities that lived in poverty and relied on donations from the public. They were often itinerant, travelling from place to place preaching and teaching. Some of the most well known orders of friars include the Franciscans, Dominicans, and Augustinians.
