What money did the Victorians use?

In the Victorian era, the currency used in the United Kingdom was known as the British pound sterling (£). The pound was subdivided into shillings (s) and pence (d). One pound equaled 20 shillings, and one shilling equaled 12 pence. The coins used during this period included the sovereign (£1), half sovereign (10s), crown (5s), half-crown (2s 6d), shilling (1s), sixpence (6d), fourpence (4d), threepence (3d), twopence (2d), penny (1d), and halfpenny (½d). Banknotes, issued by the Bank of England and various private banks, were also in circulation. These notes came in denominations of £1, £5, £10, £20, £50, and £100.
