Yuma traditions include hunting and fishing rituals to ensure success. They were skilled desert farmers using extensive irrigation on the banks of the Gila and Colorado rivers to grow many crops.
The Quechan tribe was traditionally led by 11 chiefs, each representing different clans. After contact with Europeans, tribal organization changed with increasing contact and influence from other Indigenous peoples and non-native settlers.
