Who was Philip II of Macedon greatly influenced by?

Philip II of Macedon was greatly influenced by the reforms of Epaminondas, a brilliant Theban general and statesman. Epaminondas is credited with developing the 'Theban phalanx', a military formation that transformed warfare in ancient Greece. Philip was an admirer of Epaminondas' military tactics and also adopted many of his political and administrative ideas, including the use of professional soldiers and the creation of a strong central government.
