Eisenhower Doctrine

- Policy that stated the U.S. would use force if necessary to protect the Middle East from communism.

- Issued by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in early 1957 with regard to a crisis regarding Egypt’s seizure of the Suez Canal which involved Britain, France, and Israel against Egypt supported by the Soviet Union.

- Based on the Domino Theory - if one nation in the region fell to communism, others would as well

- Led U.S. into Lebanon with Operation Blue Bat where US Marines landed in Beirut during a civil war
