When are old Roman and modern used?

Old Roman, also known as Roman numerals, are typically used to represent ordinal numbers, such as in dates, chapter markings, or section numbers. For example, "Chapter XIV" or "Section III" may be written using Roman numerals, while the year 2022 would be written in modern, or Arabic, numerals.

Old Roman may also be used for decorative purposes or to add a more traditional or classical feel to a document or design.

On the other hand, modern numerals, or Arabic numerals, are the system of numerical symbols commonly used globally. They consist of ten digits: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Modern numerals are widely used in everyday settings, scientific contexts, mathematical operations, and in most areas of practical application due to their simplicity and ease of calculation.
