Why were the colonists fighting British?

Taxes

The colonists were frustrated with the taxes imposed on them by the British government. The Stamp Act of 1765, which imposed a tax on paper goods, sparked outrage and led to the formation of the Sons of Liberty, a group of colonists who protested British policies.

Representation

The colonists felt that they were not adequately represented in the British government. They did not have any representation in the British Parliament, and they were not allowed to have their own assemblies. This lack of representation led to the colonists feeling like they were being treated as second-class citizens.

Control

The British government made many decisions for the colonies without consulting the colonists. This lack of control over their own affairs frustrated the colonists and made them feel like they were being treated as subjects rather than as citizens.
