According to legend how did silk making begin?

Legend of Empress Xi Lingshi

The most popular legend about the origins of silk begins with Empress Xi Lingshi or Leizu, wife of the legendary Yellow Emperor in around 2640 BCE. Xi Lingshi was out walking around their garden on a particularly hot day when a few white cocoons fell through branches at her feet. The cocoons unraveled into luxurious fibers before her eyes and the empress quickly began experimenting with weaving the fibers until she developed soft threads of silk and taught others to do the same.
