What happened in 1734?

1734

- Coronation of Shah Alam II in the Mughal Empire. After the death of Emperor Muhammad Shah, Shah Alam II, the son of Emperor Jahandar Shah, was crowned as the new Mughal Emperor.

- The Russo-Turkish War of 1735-1739 began. The war started when Russia invaded the Ottoman Empire, claiming to protect Orthodox Christians living under Ottoman rule. The war ended with the Treaty of Belgrade in 1739, which gave Russia control over the Azov region and parts of the Caucasus.

- The War of the Polish Succession (1733-1735) ended. The war was fought over the succession to the Polish throne after the death of King Augustus II the Strong. The war ended with the Treaty of Vienna, which gave Stanislaus I Leszczyński the Polish throne, but also made Prussia a major European power.

- The foundation of Savannah, Georgia. The colony of Georgia was founded by James Oglethorpe as a refuge for debtors and persecuted Protestants from Europe.

- The discovery of the first dinosaur bone. The fossilized tooth of a Megalosaurus was found in Oxfordshire, England.
