Who was included in the third estates?

The Third Estate was the largest of the three estates of the Estates-General of the Kingdom of France. It included all those people who were not part of the clergy or the nobility. This included:

* The urban bourgeoisie, such as merchants, lawyers, and artisans

* The rural peasantry

* The lower clergy, such as parish priests and monks

The Third Estate was the most diverse and varied of the three estates. Its members came from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds. However, they were united by their shared grievances against the clergy and the nobility.
