What language was the Anglo saxon chronicle written in?

The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle is a collection of annals in Old English, chronicling the history of the Anglo-Saxons from the earliest times until the Norman conquest of England in 1066. The chronicle was originally compiled in the late 9th century by Asser, a Welsh monk and bishop of Sherborne, at the behest of King Alfred of Wessex. It was subsequently continued and updated by various chroniclers until the 12th century. The chronicle is an important source of information on the history of England during the Anglo-Saxon period, and it has been used by historians to study a wide range of topics, including political history, social history, and cultural history.
