Did the Romans build motorway?

The ancient Romans did not build motorways as we know them today. They did, however, build an extensive network of roads, known as Roman roads, which facilitated travel and transportation throughout their empire. These roads were primarily designed for military purposes, allowing for the quick movement of troops and supplies. While they were not the same as modern motorways, some Roman roads were wide enough to allow for multiple lanes of traffic, making them comparable in some ways to highways.
