Why King Midas turned to gold by his own thumb?

King Midas did not turn himself to gold by his own thumb. In the Greek myth, King Midas wished for everything he touched to turn to gold. His wish was granted by the god Dionysus, but Midas soon realized that this gift was a curse. Everything he touched, including his food and drink, turned to gold, and he was in danger of starving to death. Midas begged Dionysus to take away the gift, and the god agreed. Midas washed his hands in the River Pactolus, and the golden touch was washed away.
