What do the colors of black history flag mean?

The Black History flag was designed by Marcus Garvey in 1920 at the first convention of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL). The flag is a horizontal tri-color of red, black, and green.

Here is the symbolism of the colors:

* Red: The bloodshed endured by people of African, Black, and Melaninated (ABM) descent who lived before, during, and after the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

* Black: Represents pride in ABM communities, people, families, and cultures around the world and signifies African people whose lives have contributed, influenced, and inspired a culture and way of life for all ABM throughout America and world-wide.

* Green: Hope for all humanity.
