Why was the kaaba important to pilgrims?

The Kaaba is the most sacred site in Islam. It is located in the center of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Muslims believe that the Kaaba was built by the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Ismail (Ishmael). It is a cube-shaped structure made of black stone. The Kaaba is important to pilgrims because it is the focal point of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. Muslims from all over the world travel to Mecca to perform the Hajj, which includes circumambulating the Kaaba seven times. The Kaaba is also important because it is the direction that Muslims face when they pray.
