- Control over taxes and laws. Parliamentarians wanted these controlled by both Parliament and King through Acts of Parliament, while Royalists only wanted Acts that the King agreed to
- Support of the Church of England, as well as control its appointments;
**- Freedom from excessive government regulations (by either the king’s prerogative courts or by Acts of Parliament) and taxes without parliamentary authorisation (the issue that started it all) and
- Support from King of England against his Parliament (known as ‘Cavaliers.’)
