Why did not Indians unite against the British in Sepoy mutiny?

The sepoys were not representative of all Indians.

Sepoy recruitment was from certain classes or castes. Their cause did not attract large scale support of peasantry.

The sepoys were a professional soldier class consisting of high caste Hindus and Muslim zamindars while common and lowe caste Hindus as well as most of the princely states remained loyal.
