Where did most people sleep in early colonial times?

Most people sleeping in early colonial times slept in trundle beds. Trundle beds were a type of bed that had a second, smaller bed that could be pulled out from underneath the main bed. This allowed for more people to sleep in a small space, which was important in early colonial times when housing was often scarce. Trundle beds were also popular because they were easy to move, which was important for people who were constantly on the move.
