The Umayyad dynasty was the ruling dynasty of the Moors who invaded Spain in 711 AD. The Umayyad dynasty was founded by Muawiyah I in 661 AD, and ruled over much of the Middle East, North Africa, and Spain until 750 AD. The Umayyad dynasty was overthrown by the Abbasid dynasty in 750 AD, but the Umayyad dynasty continued to rule over Spain until 1031 AD. The Umayyad dynasty was succeeded by the Almoravid dynasty in 1061 AD, and the Almoravid dynasty was succeeded by the Almohad dynasty in 1147 AD. The Almohad dynasty was succeeded by the Marinid dynasty in 1248 AD, and the Marinid dynasty was succeeded by the Wattasid dynasty in 1465 AD. The Wattasid dynasty was succeeded by the Saadi dynasty in 1524 AD, and the Saadi dynasty was succeeded by the Alaouite dynasty in 1666 AD. The Alaouite dynasty is the current ruling dynasty of Morocco.
