What is the meaning of ancient Greek word god?

The ancient Greek word for "god" is θεός (theos). It may be derived from Proto-Indo-European *dʰeu̯h₁s, cognate with Latin deus and Sanskrit devas, itself perhaps from the root *deiw- ('to shine', also in terms of perception, illumination, or clarity), suggesting an original sense of 'daylight', 'sky', or 'heaven'. Another proposed derivation is from *dhes- (from *dhe- 'suck', hence a sense of 'suckled', 'nurturer') and *-sō, thus 'one who suckles', 'one who feeds', 'provider', 'fosterer', 'nourisher', cf. Homer's frequent epithet for Athena, θυγατηρ Διὸς αἰγιόχοιο, "Daughter of aegis-bearing Zeus".
