What was the crematoriums in Auschwitz?

There were five crematoria in the Auschwitz concentration camp complex, which were used for the mass murder of Jews and other victims during the Holocaust. The crematoria were equipped with gas chambers and ovens, and were designed to efficiently dispose of the bodies of those killed. The five crematoria at Auschwitz were:

1. Crematorium I: Located in the Auschwitz I main camp, it had three gas chambers and ovens. It was in operation from 1940 to 1943.

2. Crematorium II: Also known as the Birkenau Crematorium, it was situated in the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. It had four gas chambers and ovens and was the largest crematorium in the complex. Crematorium II was in operation from 1942 to 1944.

3. Crematorium III: Located near Crematorium II, it had two gas chambers and ovens and was in operation from 1942 to 1944.

4. Crematorium IV: An unfinished crematorium located in the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. Construction began in 1942 but was never completed.

5. Crematorium V: Also located in Auschwitz-Birkenau, it was a small crematorium used to burn the corpses of prisoners who died from disease or starvation. It was in operation from 1943 to 1944.

These crematoria played a central role in the mass extermination of prisoners in the Auschwitz concentration camp complex, and have come to symbolize the horrors of the Holocaust.
