While jesters did certainly entertain royalty and nobility during Elizabethan times, it would be overstating their value to categorize them as truly valuable or influential individuals during that or any period. Although they provided much needed respite and humorous distractions, the idea that jester held crucial advisory positions with any sort of serious policy influence doesn't accurately reflect their actual standing or significance in society.
