The battle of Gettysburg is one of the most famous, but also the bloodiest of the American Civil War. The battle was the turning point where the North began to gain the upper hand. The battle lasted three days in and around this small town in the state of Pennsylvania. The losses of both reached 46,000-51,000 men in the three days of July 1-3, 1863.
But the battlefield is now famous in the US not only for its historical importance as such but also for the… presence of ghosts on it! According to various researches, the supernatural activity in the area is increased.
"The wounded were being taken to our homes... The carpets were so soaked with blood that they had to be thrown away. The walls were bloody, the books we used as headrests for the wounded…” , reported a woman from the city, an eyewitness to the events.
“The corpses were twice the size of the people they once were and were literally bursting with noise… many human corpses were leaning against a fence with their arms open...", a Northern soldier reported.
At what is now Gettysburg College, then Pennsylvania College, after the battle students swore they saw and heard soldiers fighting and dying. A few years ago, two employees of the college even reported that once they went down to the basement, they found themselves in an operating theater of 1863... with the wounded waiting and the doctors operating, while one of the bystanders looked at them as if asking them for help. The college had been used during the battle as a hospital.
There are many similar stories circulating in the area involving the presence of what are described, of course, as ghost soldiers taking part in Pickett's infamous charge.
At a point in the field where there is a rock formation named "devil's nest". Visitors report hearing the sounds of drums and guns... In fact, according to a legend that has been cultivated, cameras and cameras are damaged if someone tries to use them at that point.
Most, of course, doubt the existence of ghosts, much less their presence...at Gettysburg or elsewhere. In addition to those interested in history, however, the curious also continue to flood the historic city, leaving valuables for the residents... dollars .
