Ancient history

japanese armored division

The Japanese armored division of 1942, first quaternary (with four regiments) then ternary from 1944, had an organization quite similar to the Italian armored division. The number of medium tanks there was somewhat lower (155). Its artillery regiment received self-propelled guns only in 1943-44, and its first armored personnel carriers (ATVs) from the same period. At least four large units of this type were formed, which were never engaged against their counterparts, and whose elements gradually disappeared during fragmentary actions.
Such was the fate in particular of the 2nd Armored Division of the Japanese army, in Luzon (Philippines) in January 1944.
