From 1850 onwards, Abolition and the Republic integrated if in a single period of history that is the result of changes in the Brazilian economic base. The basis of the monarchy was the class that owned slaves and that was effectively affected.
The process of Proclamation of the Republic offered conditions to coffee producers and other sectors that did not use labor -slave work, to claim power. They established the federal government regime, satisfied the regional oligarchies and strengthened the local republican parties. It was essential to respect the army, as this was the force that dominated the process of destructuring the slave state.
Such hegemony offered conditions for the military to create partnerships with different sectors of society dissatisfied with the monarchic system and, with this, there was the possibility of becoming leaders of the republican movement, in addition to occupying the position of president in the first years of the new regime.
